Cortona is a small charming town in the Valdichiana. ?The city, famous location of “under the Tuscan Sun”, enclosed by stone walls dating back to Etruscan and Roman times, sits on the top of a hill. This dominant position over the valley offers a spectacular view from all over the town of the surrounding valley and even Lake Trasimeno. Short stop in Montepulciano for an independent visit then continue to Bagno Vignoni. Montepulciano is a medieval town of rare beauty highly recommended visiting in Tuscany. The city, full of elegant Renaissance palaces, ancient churches, charming squares and hidden corners, boasts vast panoramas all over the wonderful Val d'Orcia and Val di Chiana valleys that surround it. Overnight in Bagno Vignoni.
Day 04, CRETE SENESI*
This is a free day. Why not look to explore Crete Senesi area or relax at Bagno Vignoni Thermal Spa. Crete Senesi literally means Siennese Clays. This is a great place to go to if you are looking for some peaceful time, mainly characterized by pure and untouched nature; hills, woods, waters and a semi-desert, breaking up the green landscape that is typical of Tuscany. This beautiful territory is pointed by tens small incredible villages such as Asciano, Buonconvento, Monteroni d'Arbia, Rapolano Terme, San Giovanni d'Asso and many others. Overnight in Bagno Vignoni.
*To explore this region, you would need to either rent a vehicle or hire a private driver for the day (private driver ranges from $199-300 depending on # of passengers). Celtic Tours can arrange this at time of booking.
Day 05, SIENA & MONTERIGGIONI
Meet your driver guide at hotel and transfer to Florence. Your driver guide will stop in Siena and Monteriggioni to visit these enchanting villages. The drive itself is magnificent: enjoy the view of Chianti hills covered by vineyards and olives trees, with the cypresses that became soon familiar. Siena is probably Italy's loveliest medieval city. Its heart is the central piazza known as Il Campo, known worldwide for the famous Palio run here, a horse race run around the piazza two times every summer. Movie audiences worldwide can see Siena and the Palio in the James Bond movie, Quantum of Solace. Time permitting, short stop in at the charming and tiny castle town of Monteriggioni. With lunch at a Tuscan Villa estate, as well as wine tasting and cellar visit included, this is a great day to experience the best aspects of this wonderful region! Arrival late afternoon in Florence and overnight in the heart of the town. Overnight in Florence.

See historic sculptures, frescoes and paintings in 3 famous churches - the Duomo, Santa Trinità and Orsanmichele. Learn why Florence became one of the greatest art centers the world has ever seen and see Florence's Baptistery, Bell Tower, Gates of Paradise, Brunelleschi's Dome, Vasari's Corridor, Piazza della Signoria, Palazzo Vecchio, Ponte Vecchio, Medieval towers and Renaissance palaces and more (all from outside). Day 07, VOLTERRA & SAN GIMIGNANO
Meet your driver guide for a full day tour to Volterra & San Gimignano. San Gimignano, a small walled village not far from Florence, is famous for its medieval architecture and towers that rise above of all the surrounding buildings offering an impressive view of the city from the surrounding valley. San Gimignano's patrician families had built around 72 tower-houses as symbols of their wealth and power. Volterra is surrounded by an uncontaminated landscape. Volterra is prevalently Medieval and yet cherishes abundant evidence of the Etruscan period: the Porta all'Arco (the Etruscan gate) which date from the 4th century B.C., the Acropolis, the defensive walls which are still visible in parts of the town. Volterra is not yet touched by the stress of contemporary life and visitors who come to Volterra have the immediate impression of stepping into the past, of being in a particular place with its narrow Medieval streets and the enigma of its Etruscan origins. With lunch at a Tuscan Villa estate, as well as wine tasting and cellar visit included, this is a great day to experience the best aspects of this wonderful region! Overnight in Florence.
