Itinerary

Day 01, Edinburgh

Arrive Edinburgh. Transfer to your hotel is included. You are free to enjoy this beautiful city on your own. (Please note, hotel check-in is generally between 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm. If you are arriving into Edinburgh early - the hotel will be happy to hold your luggage until your room is ready).

Day 02, Edinburgh - Touring Begins - Ullapool

Make your own way to the tour departure point for 8:45 am. This tour departs promptly at 9:00 am. If you had purchased a departure point transfer, your driver will collect you at the time noted on your transfer voucher. Depart the cosmopolitan city of Edinburgh and journey past the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Forth Rail Bridge, and travel into the Highlands. Our first stop of the day is in the village of Dunkeld. Time here to stretch our legs and admire the cathedral's unusual mixture of architectural styles. We venture through the shadows of the great and gorgeous Grampian Mountains and stop for lunch at a Highland town in the Spey Valley (lunch not included). Perhaps it's time to try haggis. After lunch, head to Loch Ness. Our driver-guide helps you attempt to catch a glimpse of Scotland's most-famously mythical monster. Corrieshalloch Gorge is a lesser-known Scottish sight, but it's one that you will love. It's a short walk under forest canopies with a lovely view of a waterfall. In the early evening, arrive in the scenic fishing port of Ullapool for your overnight stay. (B)

Day 03, Touring - Stornoway

Wake up, enjoy breakfast, and look out over Loch Broom as it glistens under the morning sky. First on the agenda today is a ferry journey across the sea.
This two and a half-hour boat trip takes us through the Summer Isles to Stornoway, the main town of the Western Isles. See dolphins and perhaps spot some wales as we sail. Once we arrived on Lewis and Harris, we head to the North West coast. Our driver-guide will make the most of what weather we have been blessed with and take us through traditional crofting towns and seaside ports. Spend the evening in Stornoway; a bustling port town and the home of Scotland's most delicious black pudding. Overnight in Stornoway. (B)

Day 04, Touring - Stornoway

A dramatically beautiful day in the region of Harris. Harris boasts the highest mountains in the Outer Hebrides and one of the most beautiful white-sandy beaches in Britain, Luskentyre. The area is also famous for Harris Tweed and myths that are as strange as they are poignant. After a morning of exploring the dramatic landscapes, we stop for lunch (not included). Depending on the weather, we may even enjoy our lunch on the beach, so don't forget to pack your sunglasses. Back onto the Isle of Lewis, we visit the Callanish Stone Circle. This prehistoric sight still mystifies archeologists today. A little down the road, we visit the stone fort of Dun Carloway. This structure was built before 100 AD and has experienced more battles than we have had hot dinners. It's a wonderful location to ponder over the vast swathes of history that have come before us. We head back to Stornoway in the late afternoon. (B)

Day 05, Touring - Inverness

Today, we travel through a landscape littered with crofting villages to Arnol Blackhouse. Here, we can experience what traditional farming life was like in these remote reaches without getting our hands too dirty. Following lunch (on your own), we head back to Stornoway where we take the ferry back to the mainland. We head straight for the Inverness, Capital of the Highlands and our final overnight stop. Overnight in Inverness. (B)

Day 06, Touring - Edinburgh

This morning we leave Inverness and head for Tominoul, the highest village in the Highlands. Sitting on north side of the Cairngorm National Park, with its central square and 18 th century buildings, Tomintoul is a fine example of a planned village. Next we head into Royal Deeside, the great valley of the River Dee that runs all the way from the sweeping mountains to the Aberdeenshire coast. We pay a visit to the Royal Lochnagar Whiskey Distillery, where you can witness the craftsmanship of the distillers who make one of Scotland's finest 12 year old single malts. Following our distillery visit it's time to relax over a leisurely lunch in the charming village of Braemar in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. This beautiful and remote village feels like the Highlands of a bygone era. Set amongst majestic mountains, peat colored rivers and cool dark forests, it's easy to see why the British Royal Family have made this area their favorite summer retreat. From here the route south passes over Scotland's highest mountain pass, through Highland Perthshire before stopping at Scone Palace, the home of Scotland's legendary Coronation Stone, better known as the Stone of Destiny. From here it's a short journey back to Edinburgh, arriving approx. 6:30 pm. Your tour ends at Rabbies Cafe at 6 Waterloo Place in Edinburgh, where you will make your own way back to your pre-booked hotel. Overnight in Edinburgh. (B)

Day 07, Edinburgh - Home

After breakfast, transfer from your hotel to the Airport for your return flight to the U.S.
