Itinerary

Day 1 | Arrive in Munich

Welcome to Germany! In the morning enjoy a city tour through Munich. Visit its famous attractions such as the Marienplatz, the Viktualienmarkt and the Hofbräuhaus! Munich is the gateway to the Bavarian Alps and world famous for the "Oktoberfest,“ and the Bayern München football club with its impressive Allianz Arena. The liveliest part of Munich is undoubtedly the Marienplatz, a spectacular square full of history and wonder. You are sure to love it! The afternoon is free for you to explore the city at your leisure.

Day 2 | Munich - Neuschwanstein & Linderhof Palaces - Füssen

Today, leave for Füssen and enjoy a visit of the splendid castles of Louis II, King of Bavaria known as "The Mad King.“ Visit the fantastic Neuschwanstein castle, the inspiration for many fairytale castles, and the beautiful castle of Linderhof which are framed by one of the most beautiful natural surroundings in the world, offering spectacular views and a truly magical experience. Also visit the village of Oberammergau, known for its handcrafts and its Passion play. Accommodation in Füssen, the southernmost point of the "Romantic Route.“

Day 3 | Füssen - Garmisch - Partenkirchen

Today, continue on to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany's capital of winter sports. Garmisch-Partenkirchen hosted the 1936 Winter Olympics and is sure to impress. Here lies the tallest mountain in Germany, the Zugspitze (2,962 meters). Ascend by cable car to the top of the Zugspitze to enjoy the wonderful views and all nature has to offer. Overnight in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Day 4 | Garmisch-Partenkirchen - Innsbruck - Salzburg

Continue with the trip to Innsbruck, located in the west of Austria and the valley of the River Inn, surrounded by high mountains. Stroll around this city of enchantments and visit the World of Swarovski Crystals. Find yourself some lunch or enjoy shopping in the city. In the afternoon, leave for Salzburg, and arrive at your next hotel to overnight.

Day 5 | Salzburg

In the morning enjoy a city tour of Salzburg. Salzburg is a city that is famous worldwide, due to the incomparable magic of the silhouette of the city, the beauty of the surrounding landscape. Most importantly, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the famed composer, was born here in 1756. It is truly a city of music and history sure to impress. Due to the architectural beauty and harmony of the Old Town, Salzburg was also declared a "World Heritage Site“ by UNESCO, and is certain to be a memorable trip.

Day 6 | Salzburg - Berchtesgaden

Today, leave Salzburg for Berchtesgaden, a typical Alpine village at the foot of the Watzman mountain. This charming village is well known for its salt mines, the "Königssee“ (lake of the king) and Obersalzberg, home to the Eagle‘s Nest. After a visit to the salt mine in Berchtesgaden, you can choose to go on a boat trip on the Königssee or visit the famous Eagle‘s Nest (not included).

Day 7 | Berchtesgaden - Lake Chiem - Munich

In the morning, leave for Munich. On the way there, stop on the shores of Lake Chiem and enjoy its natural beauty. Afterwards journey on, and arrive in Munich in the afternoon, where you will make your way to your Munich Hotel. From here on, the rest of your tour is independent. You are free to enjoy the city on your own for the remainder of the day, and make those last minute memories you will carry with you always. 

Day 8 | depart from Munich - U.S.

This morning there is a transfer included to bring you to Munich Airport for your return flight home. 


(Note: This tour is designed for the independent traveler that wants private touring and transfers from airport to hotel, hotel to airport and from city to city. There is free time (as noted on the itinerary) as well as private touring as noted. This is designed for parties of 2-6. If you have a party larger than 6 passengers, please let Celtic Tours know and we will provide a quote per your request.

Departures & Transfers

Tour date is the date the tour begins in Munich. Please book your air one day prior to allow for overnight flights.

Note: if tour participants drop to 7 or fewer, there will be no tour host and it is escorted by a driver/guide only. Vehicle will be sized based on tour participants.
