Itinerary

Winchester CathedralDay 1 Upon arrival into one of London's airports collect your hire car at the airport. Then head out into the country and towards Winchester. The capital of the ancient kingdom of Wessex, the city of Winchester was also the headquarters of the Anglo-Saxon kings until the Norman Conquest. Visit the famous Winchester Cathedral, originally a Benedictine monastery, much of the Norman architecture remains despite its being modified repeatedly until the early 16th century. Overnight in the Southampton area.

Day 2
After breakfast leave the Southampton area through the New Forest and along the Dorset coast with its magnificent views. In the afternoon you will drive through the Dartmoor which is the largest and wildest stretch of open country in southern Britain. Ponies- descendants of those turned out in the Middle Ages - still graze much of the lower-lying heather moorland and there are hundreds of ancient sites. Overnight in the Plymouth area, where you will be staying for three nights.

CornwallDay 3
Begin your tour of Cornwall today with a scenic drive to the Bay of Penzance. From here, visit St. Michael's Mount. This beautiful islandset in Mount's Bay has become an icon for Cornwall. Continue to the most Western point of Cornwall - Land's End with a stop at the Minack theatre. In the afternoon we recommend a stop in the picturesque village of St. Ives. During the journey back to Plymouth area we recommend a stop in one of the many fishing villages which are known for the smuggling history. Overnight again in the Plymouth area.

Day 4
There is more time to explore beautiful Cornwall today. Visit Lanhydrock House and Gardens, the well known Eden Project and Tintagel Castle. Lanhydrock is one of the most fascinating and complete late 19th century houses in England, full of period atmosphere and with extensive servant's quarters. To enjoy one of the stunning gardens of Cornwall pay a visit at Eden Project which showcases 100000 plants from around the world in two giant transparent domes, each recreating different climate conditions. In the afternoon visit Tintagel Castle. Tintagel especially and the West Country in general have always been associated with Arthurian legend dating back to the 8 century. Overnight again in the Plymouth area.

ClovallyDay 5
We are leaving Plymouth today for good and our first on route will be Clovelly, a very scenic village on the North coast of Cornwall. Onwards journey through Exmoor including a visit to Dunster Castle to Bristol. Overnight in the Bristol area today.

Day 6
Depending on flight departure from your London airport, you might be able to include a visit to Windsor Castle, the largest inhabited castle in the world and Royal Residence since William the Conqueror. The castle is one of the Official Residences of the Queen, who spends Easter, part of June and the majority of her weekends at the Castle. On your visit you explore the Precincts and the State Apartments which were severely damaged by fire in 1992 , the magnificent restoration of which took 5 years. Later that day departure from the airport or alternatively drop off the car at the airport and extend your stay in the UK with some more nights in London.
